Apple and Pears improves Testing, Prevents Financial Loss

Apple and Pears, an edible oil miller in Nigeria, recently requested technical assistance on how to use an iCheck Chroma 3 device to accurately measure vitamin A fortification of edible oil.  “That single test saved us from an enormous financial loss,” said Samson Rindap, Quality Control Manager at Apple and Pears. “But more importantly, it prevented substandard products from reaching consumers who depend on Apple and Pears fortified oil.”

As a response to the training request, a team of four laboratory employees underwent specialized training on the use of the iCheck Chroma 3 device. The training, facilitated by BioAnalyt, transformed the way Apple and Pears approached testing.

“The primary focus of the training was on achieving precise results,” said Christian Cheumani, Technical Support Manager at BioAnalyt.” The success of this effort is a testament to the resilience and hard work of all the analysts at the Apple and Pears laboratory.”

This enhanced testing capability has also improved how Apple and Pears serves its customers. The team can now provide precise information about the exact vitamin content in their products, building trust with consumers who rely on fortified foods.

Accurate results became invaluable as the team ran tests on the next vitamin premix shipment, received. Testing revealed the entire 75 kilogram batch, worth millions of naira, did not meet required standards. “That single test saved us from an enormous financial loss. But more importantly, it prevented substandard products from reaching consumers who depend on Apple and Pears fortified oil.”

Mr Rindap encourages other businesses to seek training assistance from the Millers for Nutrition coalition “Don’t hesitate to use the support available through the Millers for Nutrition portal. The impact on your processes can be immeasurable.”
